How to Concentrate Your Audience’s Attention While Speaking

Jeffrey Davis • Jul 17, 2014

Mint.com founder and Speak Clear client Poornima Vijayashanker gives a compelling speech here on taking the time to tinker. Poornima does many things well, but what I think really makes her shine is her fluid and vibrant vocal delivery style, and her use of “the personal touch”. By beginning her speech with a heartfelt story about her father, she immediately lets us into her world, and naturally, we want to go on the journey. Her PowerPoint slides are well designed and accentuate her welcoming style.

Think of how you want to concentrate the audience’s attention before crafting your speech. Do you want to take them back in time? Into your kitchen? To your favorite vacation spot? Dare to take your audience on a journey, and I promise they will go with you.
