[...] Silence serves many purposes in a speech, but the simplest, and most important purpose it serves, is to allow you to breathe. Many people hold their breath while speaking, and this creates tension, and a monotone speaking style. It is best to breathe from the diaphragm, in a relaxed, organic manner (for a great breathing exercise, click here).
I felt bored quite quickly. My ears heard a voice a bit monotonous in tone and raspy although enbodied. Laurie didn't receive her audience. She was talking to a mirror rather than through a window. I guess I didn't perceive "passion" which is such an overused word these days that it has lost meaning. Instead I perceived automaticity and over preparation. No offense intended. Just unutterable honesty.

Thanks for your comments. I wasn't aware that Sir Robinson wore leg braces! In any case, I think it's clear to see that stillness aids his speech a great deal. Stillness allows the audience to really focus on the content of his speech, rather than distracting mannerisms.

I agree that he presents well but he should attribute much of what he says to John Taylor Gatto.

The reason he is still is because he wears leg braces as a result of polio. So there you go.

Thanks for your comment Michael. I checked out your blog... I think it's really cool... good for you for putting your yearly goals out there!

I don't know if I agree with you about the need for a balanced discussion in American politics. Democracy is built on a certain amount of tension.

In any case, thanks for your comment! I hope to hear from you soon!
